Nato e cresciuto a Johannesburg, con all’attivo un lungo periodo di vita e musica a Londra e di recente trasferitosi in Italia (Padova e poi Vittorio Veneto, TV), Stephen G. Trollip (guitar, vocals) ha riunito alla fine del 2010 i musicisti locali Elio De Limone (bass, backing vocals) e Sebastiano Ziroldo (drums, backing vocals) in un nuovo progetto musicale con l'idea di iniettare il sound, l’energia e l'attitudine del soul anni '60 e del punk-garage classico in una manciata di nuove canzoni.
Il trio ha velocemente coagulato il materiale sufficiente per un primo demo e un live-set iniziando a frequentare diffusamente i palchi della regione con il nome Manta Rays, rodando sia il repertorio che lo show e incontrando l'interesse di Garage Records con cui inizia la registrazione del nuovo disco nell’estate 2011.
I Manta Rays sono un esempio di stile energico e immediato ma ricco di riferimenti, dove alla vasta gamma di influenze si mescolano scintille di originalità che derivano dalla lunga e diversa formazione dei tre componenti. Il loro album d’esordio "Manta Rays" promette di svelare una band da seguire con attenzione nella nuova scena musicale indipendente.

Manta Rays - Biography
Born and raised in Johannesburg and currently based in Vittorio Veneto, Italy after several years in London, Stephen G. Trollip (Guitar, Vocals) first got together with local musicians Elio De Limone (Bass, Backing Vocals) and Sebastiano Ziroldo (Drums, Backing Vocals) in late 2010 with the idea of injecting the energy, sound and attitude of classic garage punk, blues and 60s soul into a handful of new songs.
The trio gelled immediately and before long the newly named Manta Rays had enough material to record their first demo, allowing them to play extensively throughout the region, all the while honing their craft and perfecting their formidable live show, eventually attracting the attention of Garage Records, with whom they started recording in June 2011.
Manta Rays are an example of that rarest and most sought after of moments in music, creating a sound that bears witness to a wide range of influences yet sparkles with an originality that can only be put down to the explosive combination of its three elements. Their much anticipated debut full-length album “Manta Rays” promises to establish the band as one of the most exciting acts on the independent music scene.
