Zombie Ant Fungus Strike

Esiste in natura un fenomeno in cui un fungo (principalmente Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis) infetta una formica, diventando il suo parassita, e una volta arrivato al suo cervello assume il controllo del sistema nervoso dell’insetto e quindi del suo comportamento.
La formica infetta, manipolata dal fungo come uno zombie, lascia la sua colonia, si arrampica su una pianta a circa 25 cm di altezza e addenta una foglia fino a lasciarsi morire, in un processo fatale chiamato “la morsa della morte”. Dopo la morte della formica, un carpoforo comincia a crescere dalla sua testa, rilasciando spore che poi infetteranno altre formiche, e la storia si ripete. There’s a phenomenon in nature in which a fungus (mainly Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis) infects an ant, becoming its parasite. Once it reaches the ant’s brain, the fungus takes control of the insect’s nervous system, affecting its behavior.
Manipulated by the fungus like a zombie, the infected ant leaves its colony, climbs a plant to a height of about one ft, and bites down on a leaf until it dies, in a fatal and fascinating process known as the “death grip.” After the ant’s death, a carpophore grows from its head, releasing spores that will infect other ants, and the cycle repeats.
