Following a digital release in April, finally Italo-Moroccan artist Momo Said‘s new album “Break The Rules”, produced and arranged by Giulio Zoil Aloisi, will see the light of day on beautiful gatefold vinyl on September 6th via Tam Tam Studio Records.
From explosive first single “Sunny Side Of The Street” whose video premiered on the website of Rolling Stone Italy, to the effervescent soul and latin-jazz inflections of “In Many Cases” launched as a second single during the Summer, or the fast-paced “Hold On” with its infectious blend of disco and jazz-funk, “Break The Rules” definitely knows how to turn up the heat!
But there are also many softer moments, such as “Revolution No Confusion”, where sparse percussion, Momo Said‘s rousing vocals and swirling keys weave a head-nodding groove. Or “Time Give Lessons” with its luscious orchestral arrangement, as well as smooth soulful number “Loverman”. True to his multicultural background, Said injects a multitude of influences into his second album, which even include rap, such as on the slick blaxploitation-inspired “Basement” or the p-funk, bass-driven titletrack “Break The Rules”.
If there’s one thing music ignores, it’s borders, in fact it is through cross-pollination, hybridization and the meeting of different styles and genres that some of the most exciting musical endeavors are made, and Momo Said is another fine example.
“Break The Rules” out on LP / Digital on September 13th via Tam Tam Studio Rec
