ॐ मणि पद्मे हूँ, ~ Experimental Doom-Metal

The Land of the Snow is a solo-project and a state of mind of Joel Gilardini (treated guitars, electronics and drums programming).

The aim of this peculiar project is to explore the possibilities offered by combining and merging different musical languages, and create something unpredictable. Another goal is to drag the listeners into a high emotional state and use the music as a medium to explore and develop one’s inner self.

During 2015/16 this research on music and inner feelings led to the new album Paths Of Chaos.

Chaos has mostly always been seen as a negative principle, the origin of disorder and dissolution, a path without exit, along which you could only eventually get lost.
But what happens if we consider Chaos as a generator of new possibilities? Like a Pilgrim, Joel took the challenge to explore new paths and summoned the energies offered by Chaos to embark on a new quest. Along this explorative trip, he has experienced the thrill and the fear of his own inner feelings, while testing new territories discovering new colors, new languages, new tastes. This pilgrimage has taken him on a sacred path devoted to exchanging and rearranging with the purpose of finding new channels inside and outside oneself.
It’s intuition, it’s open-mindedness to new experiences, no matter which ones… no-where, now-here!

Paths Of Chaos was released February 2017 on the Italian label Taxi Driver Records. For POC, TLOTS was really delighted to join forces with Jacopo Pierazzuolion drums (Morkobot, Obake, Osso), Eraldo Bernocchiat the mixing-desk (Sigillum S, Obake, Metallic Taste Of Blood, Osso, SIMM), and once again with visual artist Petulia Mattioli, who created a wonderful, haunting artwork!
Paths Of Chaos is undoubtedly the heaviest work ever released by this project.

After the first initial steps in 2010/2011, The Land of the Snow did a first collaboration in 2012 with Italian visual artist Petulia Mattioli (who worked with musicians such Bill Laswell, Nils Petter Molvear, Eraldo Bernocchi, Thomas Fehlmann, and many more), which resulted in 2 peculiar music videos.

2013 saw the release of the Belonging To Nowhere EP, which was produced together with Andi Pupato at the mixing-desk (of Andreas Vollenweider, Nik Bartsch’s Ronin, and Mich Gerber, and other acts) and features for the first time ever a real drum kit, played by fellow drummer Daniel Schuchter. The artwork was created byKaryn Crisis (former singer of Crisis and ex-Ephel Duath).

June 2015 sees the release of the collaboration albumFree Bitches Love together with Sshe Retina Stimulants (aka Paolo Bandera of italian industrial masters Sigillum S). On this release TLotS and SRS join forces together to create a cohesive set of six songs that fuse dark drone, minimal synth, noise, isolationism, stark electronic frequencies, ghostly voices and deep space.

In October 2016 The Land Of The Snow released the collaboration album “Vuoto/Leere” together with Mingle (aka Andrea Gastaldello) on the Swiss labelLUCE SIA, an ambient work inspired by the loneliness and the void of the Great War on the Italian-Austrian mountain front.

In the past TLOTS opened for bands such OvO(IT), Dysrhythmia (US), Signorina ?Alos (IT), Bruital Orgasme (BE), Impure Wilhelmina (CH) and Nebra (CH).

As always, The Land of the Snow‘s path is open and moves on to new challenges.
