Celia, inspired by David Lean’s 1944 film, Brief Encounter, starring Celia Johnson, is a paean to a love lost, to the poignancy of miscommunication and lost opportunity. After the darker sounds of the indie dance number Hic sunt leones and the political protest of The Trial of John Africa, Celia sees The Peripheries turn more reflective and sentimental, with throbbing synthpop overtones and a rich melodic chorus that will make all your wounds bleed: if you belonged to me, baby, I would happily stay in.
