Biografia Il Malpertugio

The band’s moniker is taken from Boccaccio’s “Decameron” in order to depict the gloomy-sounding underground where Il Malpertugio moulds its musical world. The band was founded in 2000 in the depths of Terra Di Lavoro (“Work Land”, Province of Caserta, South Italy) by Mario Antinucci (bass) and brothers Antonio and Gianluca Zannone (guitar, drums). The three young guys started off playing instrumental stoner rock based on unquestionable milestones such as the early Black Sabbath, Orange Goblin, Kyuss, Unida, etc. Later on, vocalist Ivan “Gojira” Franzini and guitarist Emilio Cuoco joined the band which boosted up its stoner style through frequent hints at Metal, Sludge and Psycho Rock. Il Malpertugio’s first promo cd ( “The blues demon’s show”, 2005) got an excellent feedback from both national and international fanzines and webzines, as the band’s powerful live gigs achieved consensus and new fans everywhere. In 2010, Il Malpertugio published its first album, “Sunset Screaming”: nine tracks summing up the band’s early creative times. The album is supplied with two video clips (“Sunset Screaming” and “Deranged”). Soon after that, the line-up changed several times: Mario left the band and was replaced by Giuseppe Marino first, and Alberto “Nardonz” Nardone then. Drummer Gianluca was temporarily replaced by Stefano “Lord Mancio” Mancini, who recorded the drums for Il Malpertugio’s latest work, “Demonios”, a six-track EP which will be out by the end of March 2014. With Gianluca Zannone’s return into the stoner family, Il Malpertugio is finally ready to spread its underground devilish sound in the name of the indestructible passion for rock ‘n roll.
